Crime Numbers

The Colorado Department of Public Safety collates crime data for every municipality in the state. It provides crime statistics as supplied by different law enforcement agencies rather than county totals. The crime figures provided by the Adams County Sheriff's Office are representative of crime trends in the county. In 2017, the Sheriff's Office recorded 606 cases of violent crimes including 7 murders, 164 rapes, 80 robberies, and 355 aggravated assaults. Its property crime figures for the year include 409 burglaries, 1,664 larcenies, 455 frauds, and 924 motor vehicle thefts.

Compared to the 2013 crime data provided by the Adams County Sheriff's Office, overall crime rate grew by 29.8%. A breakdown of violent crime numbers shows that murder rate remained the same between 2013 and 2017 while rape rate grew by 18%, robbery rate went up by 73.9%, and aggravated assault rate rose by 29.1%. Property crime trend in Adams County indicates that burglary (23.4%) rate dipped while larceny (14.4%), fraud (38.3%), and motor vehicle theft (78%) rates increased over the five-year period.

Criminal Records

Criminal background checks for Adams County are available from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This is a Division of the Colorado Department of Public Safety that offers fingerprint-based criminal record reports for all counties of the state. It provides the public with two options to request background checks. The Individual Search option is for conducting quick searches and requires no prior registration. The Account User option requires users to register with the site. There is a non-refundable fee of $6.85 for each search.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office provides copies of criminal justice reports upon request. These include case reports, custody letters, and inmates' jail and medical records as well as case photographs and mugshots. Members of the public can search for active warrants issued by the Sheriff's Office online from its Warrant Search page. The Sheriff's Office charges a $5 search fee for each police report or jail record plus 25 cents per page for copy fee. The first copy is free for the victims of a report. Each arrest/in-custody letter costs $10 while a CD containing case photographs costs $5 and there is a $2 fee for each mugshot. Jail video costs $15 per CD as well as a search fee of $30 per hour.

The CBI is the agency responsible for collating, and making public, information about registered sex offenders living in Colorado. Use the search functions of the Colorado Sex Offender Registry to find registered offenders residing in Adams County. Make sure to select Adams from the list of counties on the page. You can search for these individuals by name, address, and zip code.

The county jail is the Adams County Detention Facility located at 150 N. 19th Avenue, Brighton. The Sheriff's Office oversees the operation of the county jail and provides an inmate locator tool online to help the public perform Adams County Inmate Searches and find individuals incarcerated in this facility.

The Records Department charges $5 per name for search fee, $5 per document (up to 5 pages) for offsite record retrieval, $10 for offsite file retrieval, and $30 per hour for time-intensive search, research, retrieval, and redaction task. The Clerk and Recorder is the official responsible for issuing marriage and civil union licenses in Adams County.
