Criminal Records
The Weld County Sheriff's Office serves as the county's primary law enforcement agency and is tasked with maintaining records and reports pertaining to criminal activity within county limits. However, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation is the custodian of statewide criminal history information and processes requests for criminal background checks in compliance with state laws.
How to Get Criminal Records
There are two forms of criminal history checks processed by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation; each requestor's option will depend primarily on their purpose for requesting a record. Criminal record checks for employment purposes are processed by the Applicant Background Services Unit of the state Bureau.
To request a criminal record check through the service, the requestor may follow the instructions outlined on the Employment & Background Checks Page of the Bureau's website. This will require the requestor to select a fingerprinting service vendor from the list CABS approved vendors and schedule a fingerprinting appointment with the selected vendor. The requested record will be delivered via mail to the individual, employer or requesting licensing agency within days of making the request.
Alternatively, criminal records may be accessed using the Colorado Criminal History Record Check System. In this case, the requestor will be required to register for an account in order to obtain unique login information with which to access the system. Once registered, the requestor may self-serve with the system by conducting name-based searches using the full name, gender, and date of birth of the subject. The requesting party will be charged a non-refundable fee of $6.85 per search and will receive instant results for every query.

The Bureau also offers a free subscription notification service which allows Weld county residents to receive email alerts relating to sex offenders within specified vicinities.

The Weld County Sheriff's Office is tasked with managing the County jail and maintaining information regarding the jail and resident detainees. The office operates a Daily Arrest Report Index which features public information regarding all arrests made from February 2006 to date. Interested persons may obtain arrest-related information by running a Weld County Inmate Search on the index by the name of the detainee or the date of the arrest. Additional information regarding each incarcerated person is linked in the bottom right corner of the detainee's arrest record. Other general inmate and jail related inquiries can be to the Sheriff's Office at (970) 356-4015 or to Corrections staff at the Weld County North Jail Complex, Detentions 2110 O Street Greeley.
